Just in time: a new P7 for Vanuatu
TTwo microscopes in parallel on two operating tables
Thanks to the FLAIR P7 portable surgical microscope, which was delivered just in time, the ophthalmologists were able to work more efficiently and successfully during the one-week outreach programme on the island of Malekula, Vanuatu. In addition to the P6 microscope delivered five years ago, operations were now performed at two tables in parallel.
A total of 86 successful operations were performed, restoring the sight of many patients and significantly improving their quality of life. The medical team of The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ was able to count on the quality and reliability of the microscopes, which played a central role in meeting the high demand.
The outreach emphasises the importance of modern, mobile medical technology in remote regions. The commitment of the entire team and the powerful equipment enabled the programme to run smoothly and efficiently.
This successful project is a further step towards sustainably improving medical care in remote parts of the world.
